Histon and Impington Village Society

Stimulating public interest in the history, care and preservation of Histon & Impington since 1979

Speaker: Wendy Doyle

Date /time  Tuesday 29th August  7.30 pm

Location – Histon Methodist Church or Zoom

Not a “How” more a “Why”, or “What do you get out of it” with examples from my 40 year journey through my family.

My mother always said there was money in her family somewhere [not a chance], but at her urging I started to look into it back around 1980

Working for Cambridgeshire Libraries, I spent many lunchtimes in the Reference Library. As time went on there were the Archives when I could escape from the kids; visits to my home town, long letters [well before the internet] to relatives

Then looking for a social side the Cambridgeshire Family History Society, the Parish Register Project [all available registers for the county transcribed] seminars on old handwriting, plus the coming of the Internet. etc etc

BIOG:

Wendy and her family moved to Histon in 1987 and she has been a member of the village society for at least 20 years. She first joined the History group and later became the society secretary. During the pandemic she undertook a huge amount of work processing over 400 new members and organising and distributing over 70 articles about the village, given free to members.
